How to search your collection
One box above your collection matches the wine’s name, its producer, its grapes and its region — and your own bottle notes along with them. Results narrow as you type. On iPhone and iPad the box searches whichever tab is open — Current, Transit or Past — and what you typed stays when you switch tabs.
Search also looks only inside your own collection, so it will never turn up a wine you do not own. The Wines tab described below is the one that reaches our whole database.
What a search term matches
Section titled “What a search term matches”| Matched as text | Not text — filter instead |
|---|---|
| Wine name Producer Grapes Region and subregion Your own bottle notes |
Country Food pairing Tags Price, size, quantity Storage and 3D position |
Four inputs read specially
Section titled “Four inputs read specially”| You type | What you get |
|---|---|
2019 Opus One |
A leading year is read as the vintage, the rest as a name |
2019 on its own |
Every bottle of that vintage |
| A six-digit bottle code | That one bottle |
| A ten-digit InVintory barcode | That one bottle |
Collection → the search box → 2019 Opus OneWhen nothing comes back
Section titled “When nothing comes back”The app’s own tip is the right first move: try removing terms like “Domaine”, “Vineyard” or “Estate”. Some filler is dropped for you — Winery, Vineyards, Estates, Cellars, Family, Bodega, Viña — but not every variation of it, so a producer’s full legal name can still be the thing standing in your way.
Short forms are understood: cab, chard, zin, sauv blanc, drc, napa, st for Saint, and burgundy or bourgogne either way round. A long word tolerates a typo; a short one has to be spelled right.
When your own note is the match
Section titled “When your own note is the match”A note match shows the matching words under the wine, labelled Note:, with a View btl. link to the exact bottle it came from. In Past bottles the same thing reads Removal note:. Notes are private to your collection — searching never reaches anyone else’s.
Searching everything at once
Section titled “Searching everything at once”The Search all wines bar — at the top of your home screen on iPhone, in the top bar on iPad — opens a wider search, with the placeholder Try "2018 Tignanello" and four tabs:
- Wines — our whole database, including wines you have never owned
- Collection — the same search as the box above your bottles
- Activity — what has been added, drunk and moved
- Reviews — tasting notes
On Android and on the web
Section titled “On Android and on the web”Android’s collection carries the same box, counting your bottles in its placeholder, with Filter beside it.
On app.invintory.com there are two. Search collection, above the bottles table, does what this article describes. Search wine, in the top bar, covers your collection and our database together and returns both in one dropdown.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- How to filter and sort your bottles — the panel that answers everything search cannot
- Understanding your collection page — what each row in the results shows
- How to view past bottles — the Past tab, and what you can do with a removed bottle
