How to fix login problems

Almost every login failure is one of two things: the address you are typing is not the one on your account, or you are using a different sign-in method from the one you signed up with.

Let the app tell you which method you used

Section titled “Let the app tell you which method you used”

If you have signed in on this device before, the welcome screen already knows. The iPhone and iPad app shows You’re back! and You last logged in with this email: — or Apple ID if you used Apple. Android shows You previously logged in with. The button underneath repeats that method.

Open InVintory → You're back! → Log in

“The password is invalid or the user does not have a password”

Section titled ““The password is invalid or the user does not have a password””

Read the second half of that message literally. It appears both when the password is wrong and when there is no password at all, because the account was created with Apple or Google. Android shows it in those words. The iPhone and iPad app says We couldn’t sign you in. If you sign in with an email and password, tap Forgot your password to set a new one. The web app words the same failure as The email or password you entered is incorrect. Please try again.

Use the Apple or Google button matching the Apple Account or Google account you built your collection under. Picking a different one does not fail — it creates a second, empty account instead.

The iPhone and iPad app says Link sent to your address, Android says Email has been sent! and the web app says If an account exists with your email address, … The confirmation looks the same whether or not an account exists on that address, so silence usually means you asked on the wrong address.

  1. Check your spam and junk folders.
  2. Search every inbox you own for InVintory. We emailed you when you signed up, so whichever inbox holds those emails is the address on your account.
  3. Ask for the reset again on that address.

A reset asked for from the iPhone or iPad app on an Apple or Google account comes back as an email naming the method to use instead of a reset link. That email is your answer. Ask from Android or the web app and you get a link that sets a password instead.

You are in a different account, not a broken one. Signing in with Apple or Google under an Apple Account or Google account we have never seen does not error — it creates a brand-new account with an empty collection. Do not add bottles to it: sign out and sign back in with the method your collection was built under.

Open the app from the link in your welcome email and the iPhone and iPad app signs you in by itself, from version 6.37.0. If the link has already been used or has expired, the app shows the login form with your email filled in. If you never set a password, tap Forgot your password to set one.

All three work on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web app, where the two social buttons read Continue with rather than Sign in with.

How you signed up How you sign in What a password reset does
Email and password Type your email and password Emails you a reset link
Apple Sign in with Apple From Android or the web app, emails you a link that sets a password, as well as Apple. From iPhone or iPad, emails you a reminder to use Apple
Google Sign in with Google From Android or the web app, emails you a link that sets a password, as well as Google. From iPhone or iPad, emails you a reminder to use Google

On iPhone, iPad and Android, tap Log in, then Forgot your password under the login form, enter your email address and tap Reset. On iPhone and iPad the emailed link opens back in the app, where you choose a new password. From Android it opens a page on app.invintory.com instead.

Log in → Forgot your password → Email address → Reset

On the web app, click Forgot password?, then Send reset link.

app.invintory.com/login → Forgot password? → Send reset link
