How to read and write community reviews

Community reviews are the reviews other InVintory members have chosen to publish. You can read them, like them, react to them with an emoji and comment on them, and you can publish your own by leaving a review Public.

Your private reviews still appear in your own copy of the feed, which is what makes people think they went out. They did not — a padlock on the card is the tell, and only you ever see those cards.

Other members don’t see a private review, but its 100-point score, value and maturity ratings and tasting notes do count, without your name, in the averages on a wine’s page. The page says how many private reviews it is counting.

  1. In the composer, check the badge beside the wine name. If it says Private, tap it and it becomes Public.
  2. A second badge appears: Comments on or Comments off. Tap it to choose.
  3. If you have never published before, the app asks you to pick a username first — that is the name your review carries.
  4. Tap Done.

Switching a published review back to Private takes it out of the feed and turns its comments off. Editing a review never changes who can see it — the badge does. A draft reaches no one until you post it, whatever its badge says.

iPhone & iPad Explore tab → Latest community reviews
Android Reviews tab → Feed
Web Reviews in the left sidebar → Community

Each card shows the reviewer, the wine and vintage, their reaction, their notes and any photos. Tap a card to open the full review, the reviewer’s panel and more of their reviews. Tap Comments to join in — comments only appear when the author left them on.

Newest first, the feed shows reviews from members in your part of the world before everyone else’s.

  • Like a review or a comment with the heart.
  • React with an emoji using the smiley button. Tap an emoji someone already used to add yours, and tap your own again to take it back.
  • See who reacted by long-pressing a like or an emoji. A sheet lists everyone, one tab per reaction, with you first; tap a name to open that member’s profile. On the web app, hover over it to see the names instead.

On iPhone, iPad and Android, a card with several different emoji shows them together in one pill with the total. Tap it to open the review, where each emoji has its own count.

Search the text of reviews, sort by Most liked or newest first, and tap Filter to narrow by reaction, whether the reviewer would buy it again, and reviews with photos only. The same filters work on your own reviews, which on the web app you can also sort by rating, 100-point score, value or reaction — see How to review a wine.

On iPhone and iPad with iOS 26, a review written in another language is translated into yours as it comes on screen, once that language is downloaded on your device. Tap Original to see the author’s own words. Where a review has not been translated, tap Translate — iOS offers to download the language if it needs to. This needs version 6.38.0 or later.

Your username, your avatar, how long you have been a member, and how many public reviews you have written. Your bottle count is optional — turn it off under Settings → Profile, and it disappears from your reviews.

A wine’s own page carries the community’s reviews of that wine and vintage alongside the critic scores, so you can read what members thought before you open your bottle.

Likes, comments and emoji reactions work on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web app. On iPhone and iPad emoji reactions need version 6.38.0 or later, and long-pressing to see who reacted needs 6.40.1 or later; on Android both need version 1.7.0 or later. Automatic translation is on iPhone and iPad only.
