How to scan several bottles at once
Scan a case, a delivery or a row of bottles in one go. The camera stays open while you photograph label after label, and each one is matched while you keep shooting. Then you compare the wines side by side — price, scores, vintage and drink window — and add them all at once.
Where to start
Section titled “Where to start”| Device | What to tap |
|---|---|
| iPhone | The camera button in the tab bar — or the camera icon inside Search all wines on Home. Then tap Multiple just above the capture button |
| Android | The camera button beside the tab bar, then Multiple just above the capture button |
| iPad and the web app | Not available yet. Scan one bottle at a time on iPad instead |
Don’t see Single and Multiple above the capture button? Update the app — on iPhone, Multiple needs version 6.38 or later. The camera you open from the search on the Add screen or from a saved list always scans one bottle at a time.
Scan your bottles
Section titled “Scan your bottles”- Tap Multiple. The line under the frame reads Scan wines one at a time. Compare prices and scores, then add them all at once.
- Frame a label and tap the large white circle. The camera stays open, so move straight on to the next bottle. To use photos you already took, tap the photo icon at the bottom left and pick several at once.
- Each photo lands in a row above the capture button and is matched on its own. You can scan up to 24 bottles in one go.
- Tap Review when you’re done. Its badge shows how many wines matched.
Camera button → Multiple → photograph each label → Review → Add bottlesWhat the photo row tells you
Section titled “What the photo row tells you”| On the photo | What it means |
|---|---|
| Moving dots | Still matching. Keep scanning |
| A green tick | Matched |
| A gold ? | We weren’t sure, or found nothing close. You pick the right wine when you review — or tap the photo now |
| A red warning sign | The upload failed. Tap the photo to send it again |
To remove a photo, press and hold it, then tap Remove photo.
Pick the right wine for unsure photos
Section titled “Pick the right wine for unsure photos”When you tap Review, any photo we weren’t sure about comes first, one at a time — the screen shows Match Wine and which one you’re on, like 1 of 3. For each one:
- Tap the wine that matches your bottle, or
- tap Search Wine to find it by name, or
- tap Skip to leave it out. Skipping removes the photo.
Photos that are still matching keep going. If one of them comes back unsure, a banner at the top of the list says how many photos need a match — tap it to go through them.
Compare the wines
Section titled “Compare the wines”| On each wine | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| The price | The estimated market value of one bottle. The total for the ticked bottles shows under the title as Est. value |
| A rosette and a number | The critic score |
| A people icon and a number | The community score, shown when there’s no critic score or when you sort by Community score |
| A grade such as A+ beside the year | The vintage score, from our vintage guide for that region and year |
| Hold, Drink, Drink soon or Past prime | Where the wine is in its drinking window, followed by the window’s years |
| ×2 on the photo | You scanned that wine twice. It will be added as 2 bottles |
| Best overall | The wine that ranks highest on its critic, community and vintage scores together, with critics counting most. A wine past its drinking window ranks lower, and price isn’t part of it. Tap the ? beside it for the same explanation |
| Best price | The wine with the lowest price. Both labels only show when at least 2 wines can be compared and one clearly leads |
- Tap the year to change the vintage. A gold Pick vintage means we couldn’t read a year from the label.
- Untick a wine to leave it out of what you add or save.
- Swipe left on a wine and tap Remove to take it off the list, along with every photo of it.
- Tap a wine to open its full page.
Sort the list
Section titled “Sort the list”With 2 or more wines, tap the sort menu at the top of the list. You can sort by Best overall (the default), Critic score, Community score, Vintage score, Price: low to high, Price: high to low, Ready to drink soonest or Scan order. Wines missing that figure go to the end, and the app remembers your choice on this phone.
Add them, save them, or just compare
Section titled “Add them, save them, or just compare”| Tap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Add (for example Add 5 bottles) | The add screen opens with each wine’s quantity set to the number of times you scanned it. Check the vintage, size and storage, then tap Add to collection. If you use VinLocate, you’re offered to place the bottles in 3D next |
| Save to list | Saves the ticked wines to one of your saved lists — handy when you’re shopping |
| Scan or Search next to Add another wine | Adds one more wine without leaving the list |
| Done | Closes the list and clears the photos. The camera stays open for the next batch |
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The price, the price sorts and Best price don’t show if market value is hidden in your collection.
- After you add bottles, any wine you left unticked stays in the photo row, still unticked, so you can come back to it. So do photos you haven’t matched yet.
On each platform
Section titled “On each platform”Multiple is on iPhone and Android, and works the same way on both. It is not on iPad or on app.invintory.com yet — on iPad, scan one bottle at a time, and on the web, search for each wine or import a file.
