How to review a wine
A review is your own tasting note on one wine and vintage. Write it in two taps or fill in every field — either way it stays on that wine until you delete it.
A review belongs to the wine and vintage, not to a bottle. Drinking the bottle, removing it, or even deleting it permanently leaves your review exactly where it was.
Writing a review
Section titled “Writing a review”- On Collection, tap the wine.
- Under Review, tap Write full review.
- Check the Public / Private badge beside the wine name.
- Tap Say something about the… and type. Transcribe dictates instead of typing, and once you have a draft, Rewrite tidies your own words.
- Under What did you think?, pick Disliked, Liked or Loved. Liked or Loved adds a Repurchase checkbox.
- Add whatever else you want: Photos, Add location, a Maturity of Hold, Drink or Past prime, Value for price, a 100-point rating (anything from 50 to 100), the wine’s Color, Nose and Palate under Sensory notes, and its Body, Acidity, Sweetness and Tannin strength under Structure.
- Tap Done to post it, or Save as draft to finish it later.
Nothing on that screen is required. Open the review and tap Edit any time to fill in the rest.
As you type, InVintory reads your words and fills in any of those fields you have left empty. Change one yourself and your choice stays. Learn more under Maturity, Value for price and 100-point rating explains each step of the scale.
The guided review
Section titled “The guided review”Not sure how to taste a wine? Tap Guided review at the top of a new review and InVintory takes you through it one step at a time, from Step 1 of 6 to Step 6 of 6:
- Color — tap the glass that looks like your wine, and the next step opens.
- Nose — tap the aromas you notice, or type one under Type to add.
- Palate — the same for what you taste.
- Structure & Quality — Body, Acidity, Sweetness and Tannin strength, then Balance, Complexity and Finish length, then the 100-point rating. Once you have picked a balance, complexity and finish, we suggest a score range under the rating.
- Rating — What did you think?, Maturity and Value for price.
- Written review — your notes, photos and location, and the Public / Private badge. Finish with Save as draft or Done.
How to on the Color, Nose and Palate steps opens tasting tips for that step. On Color, picking a glass is how you move on. After that every step is optional: on a blank one, Next reads Skip. Balance, Complexity and Finish length are only asked for here, not on the full form.
Tap ✕ to leave the guided review and go back to the full form. If you picked anything, InVintory asks first, because leaving throws those picks away.
Saving a draft
Section titled “Saving a draft”Tap Save as draft instead of Done and the review is kept for you alone — nobody else sees a draft, whatever its badge says. It waits in My Reviews with a Draft label. Tap it to carry on, then tap Done to post it. Once a review is posted it cannot go back to being a draft.
After you post
Section titled “After you post”When you tap Done, the composer turns into a Review complete card with pictures of your review ready to share.
- Share sends one of the pictures.
- Write another review opens the wine search so you can review the next wine. Started from Wines to review, it takes you back to that list instead.
- Done closes the card.
To share a posted review later, use Share in its ⋯ menu.
The two-tap version
Section titled “The two-tap version”The same Review row on a wine carries Loved, Liked and Disliked buttons. Tapping one saves a private review straight away with no text — enough to filter and sort on later, and to add to whenever you like.
Reviewing a wine you do not own
Section titled “Reviewing a wine you do not own”You do not need the bottle in your collection. On Explore, tap Create review beside Latest community reviews and search our catalogue for the wine.
Finding your reviews again
Section titled “Finding your reviews again”| iPhone & iPad | Your profile photo at the top of Home → My profile & reviews → My Reviews, with a search field and filters. On iPad, tap your profile photo in the top bar, then Profile. On iPhone with an older iOS, it is the Profile tab |

| Android | Reviews tab → My Reviews |
| Web | Reviews in the left sidebar → My Reviews |
Open a review and use the ⋯ menu to Edit or Delete it.
On the web app, Filters → Sort by puts your reviews newest or oldest first, orders them by rating, 100-point score, value or reaction, highest or lowest first, or puts the most liked first. Sorting is off while you search, because search results come back best match first.
